Fred Taylor, a beloved Shaker Heights Schools bus driver for 33 years, retired earlier this year. Mr. Taylor is a longtime member of our community, and has greeted Onaway and Middle School students with a smile throughout his career. Mr. Taylor has built longstanding friendships with his former students and their families.
At their Tuesday, April 14 meeting, the Shaker Heights Board of Education approved revisions to the 2026-2027 academic calendar.
New Ohio law requires students to be 5 years old on or before the first day of school to be eligible for kindergarten. The District's first day for the 2026-2027 school year is August 18, 2026.
With spring break around the corner, I would like to take a moment to reflect on the exceptional opportunities available to our students. As many of you are already aware, the District is also facing a more challenging financial forecast now than we have in recent history.
